- Mumps
- SYMPTOMS. The first signs begin with chilling sensations, malaise, appetite
- loss, headache and a low to moderate fever. In a few hours (12 to 24) the
- salivary glands under the jaw will begin swelling, temperature will increase
- (possibly 103 to 104 degrees F.) and chewing and swallowing will be painful.
- The swelling of the salivary glands will last about a week. Reddened testes.
- CAUSES. It is a viral disease. Mumps are not as communicable as chicken pox
- or measles. Children ages 5 to 15 are most often affected.
- TREATMENT. Medication, bed rest and soft diet may be prescribed.
- .Ice packs may help it the testes are involved.
- .You will become immune to future attacks.
- .All children should be vaccinated to prevent mumps.
